As Pride month winds down, rainbow colors continue to fill windows and gardens along the north end of Water Street.
At 151 Water Street a rainbow flag oversees the flowers blooming in the beds below. Down the street at #189, Christy Whitmore’s passion for gardening is evident in her floral rainbow windows. Christy says: “I started with a standalone piece for one window, but as I worked, the idea evolved. I’ve always loved installations, so why not light all the windows up? I’ve been rather obsessed with taking photos of individual flowers the last year or so, working on some collage ideas —and everyone loves flowers, right?”
A permanent piece for all to enjoy is Christy’s cedar Peace Pole. “I really loved the idea of having some statement for peace standing vigil for us all. What makes me happiest now that we live in town is seeing those who notice it and react. I hope it inspires a deeper sense of peace on their journeys”.
The Eastport ArtWalk and Downeast Rainbow Alliance thank all of the artists, homes and businesses who showed their Pride in June!
