Eastport ArtWalk, in association with the Eastport Arts Center, Eastport Gallery and the Tides Institute and Museum of Art, continues to celebrate August abundance with a fresh ‘Walk of the Week’, celebrating gardens, vistas and outdoor art found along the way. Anne Shields Hopkins’ pick is featured this week, in a Middle and Downtown loop (1.4 miles).
This week’s partner is the Eat Local Eastport Co-op, working with local food producers and consumers in the greater Eastport area since approximately 2005 to increase access to Washington County and Maine-grown foods. According to Anne Shields Hopkins, “At one point we were providing access to 25 Washington County food producers, but the last two years the co-op has been dormant. This past winter there was a joyful re-opening, just in time for Covid-19 to shutter our doors again. We have the infrastructure but we need humans. We need food advocates, we need people who are empowered to jump-start access to Washington County-grown foods and support farmers in growing their businesses.” If you’d like to get involved please visit eatlocaleastport.com
Eastport and the Eastport ArtWalk thank Anne and the Eat Local Eastport Co-op for their contribution to the health and well-being of our community.
