EAC’s In The Studio, a Friday morning Zoom meetup, has been building community for artists around the state and beyond, and looks forward to a lively schedule of featured visitors. “Each week, we check in with a creative person, look at their work and have a lively Q&A,” notes organizer Anne Shields Hopkins. “We get to travel through time zones with our pj’s and breakfast cereal.” The event is open for participants to just sit and listen, or to share their creative work when appropriate.

Upcoming featured artists are:
11/6/20: Amy Ray, Eastport/Monmouth, ME
11/13/20: Laura Alger-Barkley, Austin, TX
11/20/20: Brice Garrett, Brooklyn, NY

Recent featured artists included Jen J. May, of Brooklyn, NY, who shared her pandemic series of ink drawings from film stills; William Hessain, a new Eastport artist, who discussed printmaking techniques and his ‘art hunts’; Ashley Zipp, of Biddeford, ME, who showed lovely plein air oil paintings and got everyone excited about winter banana paintings; Eastporter Rafi Hopkins who shared the inner workings of his music, experimental web development and the exciting strategy concepts he’s bringing to his new web clients; and Devon Kelley-Yurdin, of Portland, ME, who shared a series of place-based installations, altars and body movement-based drawings.

For the October 30 session, Anne showed work and invited those in attendance to an impromptu ‘first draft’ sharing of Halloween costumes to celebrate a day early! “We did a dive back in time to work from 12 years ago and discussed how this series of ink drawings could exist today,” noted Anne. “Could I form them into a book, a series of prints or simply make them available for sale?”
