Have you ever gone owling? Winter Owl Art will be the next from the EAC KinderArts program’s Craft Along video series. Instructor Nia Aretakis will help viewers make their own wise, brave owl with paint, felt and cardboard in an easy-to-follow and gentle video presentation.
EAC’s Craft Along workshops are accessible to all via our site and YouTube channel. The projects are geared towards children ages 3 to 8, but fun for all ages to try. Materials kits are provided free of charge by EAC, but supplies from home may easily be used as well if preferred.
“A magical January activity for all,” offered Alison Brennan, EAC’s Education & Outreach Director, “is taking a nighttime walk during the full moon to find the owl living near you.” Brennan fondly recalled Jane Yolen’s book, Owl Moon, a favorite of both her children and grandchildren, and suggests reading a copy, or viewing the read-along video below as inspiration for next week’s Craft Along. “It’s a wonderful way to take you [owling], as a father and daughter silently walk through the forest on a lovely winter night. And the illustrations by John Schoenherr are beautiful!”
The Winter Owl Art video will be available on Friday, January 15; kits will be ready for pick up beginning Wednesday, January 13. Please email Alison for your free kit and pick up arrangements, or with any questions about materials needed if you’ll participate in the craft with your own supplies.
Funding for this series has been provided by Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. Donations will be gratefully accepted as well—either in the coffee can provided at materials pickup or via the EAC’s website. Participants are encouraged to send photos of their projects to Alison.
