Children from Calais, Eastport, Perry and Whiting took part in EAC’s Earth Day-themed April Vacation Arts Camp led by talented art teacher Devon McPhee. The first project used upcycled materials to create a pencil cup with a collaged-on sunlit forest scene. Next, campers created 8-sided mandala drawings with more environmental imagery—trees, mountains, clouds, and in one case, a chicken laying eggs!

The activities were taught with consistent encouragement and helpful tips by McPhee, who also gave thoughtful insights about celebrating and honoring our Earth. Though the camp days were cold, rainy and even snowy, the online crafts were colorful and bright, and campers enjoyed them!
For a look back at the camp, check out the video below, which features clips taken from the first day’s project, accompanied by Rafi Hopkins’ original music.
