For the EAC community, April 30 was a night filled with poetry readings. Local poets Catherine Lee, Jnana Hodson, Valerie Lawson, Michael Brown, Loretta Boyer McClellan and Debra Baldwin were joined by Portland’s poet laureate Linda Aldrich and interested listeners in a festive end to National Poetry Month, revised for our current Zoom world of activities. Poems read featured locales distant and familiar—from Los Angeles all the way to Tide Mill Farm in Trescott.
During the readings, EAC’s director and talented baker Chris Grannis demonstrated a delicious-looking fruit galette; attendees piped up asking for the recipe and wished they could taste her beautiful creation. The evening ended with a Welsh poem read by Debra Baldwin, first in English translation, then in the original melodic sounds of Welsh language.

“We’d like to extend special thanks,” noted EAC Education & Outreach Coordinator Alison Brennan, “to the talented poets and the appreciative listeners for transforming a rainy Friday night into a time filled with inspiration.”

The big reveal! Chris Grannis, after preparing a fruit-filled galette during the Zoom event, sliced and plated the treat a la mode, to the envy and delight of viewers.
Poetry & Pie Night was a wonderful antidote to a rainy night!
