Eastport Arts Center’s Summer Workshop Series continues with Melissa Newcomb’s Epoxy Resin Casting for Beginners, 1:30-4:30 pm, Tuesday, July 27. Geared for ages 12 and up, instruction will cover techniques for getting started with casting small objects in resin, using round trays. “Resin casting is a great way to preserve and display special items that may not otherwise survive the test of time,” noted Melissa, a passionate epoxy enthusiast who is especially fond of casting sea shells. In her work with the medium, she has also casted a wide variety of items in the epoxy resin, including wedding bouquet flowers (to create a wall clock), rocks, bottle caps, photographs and baby hair. She even had the honor of artistically casting the ashes of a beloved lost pet.

Workshop spaces are limited; participants must register with Alison Brennan at alison@eastportartscenter.org. The $20 fee includes all materials for the workshop, though participants may bring small items to cast in the epoxy resin, if desired. Support for this workshop has been provided by Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. A sliding fee scale is available by request.
