EAC’s Summer Workshop Series concluded on August 17, with Joan Lowden’s introduction to the techniques of photo-encaustic painting. Joan, a musician, explained to attendees that she finds this medium similar to jazz. “You start with a plan, but the hot wax has a plan of its own. The art comes from letting the materials ultimately guide the journey.”
Students loved the process and the endless possibilities creating with the beeswax and damar resin for encaustic art.
EAC Education and Outreach Coordinator Alison Brennan extends special thanks to all of the Workshop Series instructors. “Each one worked hard to prepare for their session, shared their talent happily, and gave so much joy to interested artists, both beginner and advanced.”
EAC’s Summer Workshop Series was partially funded by the Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
