Roochie Toochie & the Ragtime Shepherd Kings, an outfit specializing in comical and obscure ‘tunes from the olden days’ will bring their unique sound to the Eastport Arts Center stage at 7 pm, Saturday, September 4. As part of their Maine Songs Tour, supported by a grant from the Maine Bicentennial Commission, the string band promises “a visually exciting, sonically breathtaking night of fun featuring old sheet music, Maine history and humor.”

“The early 20th century was the first major period of music publishing in the United States,” notes the band. “Maine has a rich history as both the subject of these songs and as a minor hotbed for entrepreneurs in the commercial music business. Drawing on a range of archival collections, Roochie Toochie will perform songs written in or about Maine, bringing the state’s melodious past to life.”

First seen at EAC in 2017, the Shepherd Kings gave a joyride of a performance for the Eastport community with their trademark old-time pizzazz: glib and deft harmony vocals, stunning musicality, including ‘fancy fiddling, ukulele wizardry and flashy lap-still guitar’, sound effects, toy instruments, and vintage quirks galore.

A video featuring clips from the 2017 show may be viewed here; more information about the band may be found at

Tickets, which will be available at the EAC box office prior to performances, are $20; attendees age 17 and under will be admitted free of charge. CDC guidelines will be followed.
