Children’s Theater Workshop begins its spring session Saturday, March 19th. Co-teachers Mark Macey and Lauren “L” Elwood will take participants through the facets of theater production, from set and lighting design to directing and beyond. In addition to hands-on technical theater experience, participants will draft a design for a play of their choosing with the help of experienced guest artists from the professional, academic, and community theater sectors. The session will run Saturdays, 10-11:30 am, March 19 to June 4.
“This is for kids who are interested in learning about how theater really works,” said Macey. “Maybe they’re excited by lights, costumes, makeup, directing, or all of the above. This session is like a little taste test for all those things. It’s all about what’s happening offstage to make a play work.”
The session will have two culminating events: first, a public presentation of participants’ designs and second, a field trip to Schoodic Arts for All in Winter Harbor to see how another theater and arts center operates.
The first meeting on March 19 will be an information and registration session. Parents/guardians and their children are encouraged to come learn about the program. Material is geared toward middle and high school students, but participants ages 8 and up are welcome.
