Stage East is excited to announce auditions for its upcoming original musical Away Down East (A Wicked Good Time!) composed by Elizabeth H. Nichols-Goodliff and Directed by Lauren “L” Elwood. Drop-in auditions will take place on Saturday, April 16th from 1-3 pm on a first come, first served basis. Auditioners should prepare roughly 30-60 seconds of music either a capella or with a backing track and expect to read portions of the script, which will be provided at the audition.
Interested parties who cannot make the audition are encouraged to email elwood@eastportartscenter.org to schedule an alternate time.
For those tentative thespians, the director says, “It’ll be low-stress and fun! Come sing with us!”
Composer and lyricist Goodliff noted, “After teaching students the basics of songwriting for many years as a public school music teacher, I finally get to put all of that practice into use. Writing about Downeast Maine is a great opportunity for me. It became even more meaningful to me since I took a teaching job this year on the mid-coast of Maine. When I wrote the final song, “Goodbye Washington County” it was my personal journey that I reflected on, and I even started to tear up when I was recording it. Luckily I’m able to come back on some weekends and school vacations to see the music that I wrote for the show come to life on the stage.”
Auditions will be held at Eastport Arts Center, 36 Washington Street, Eastport. EAC abides by State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Additionally, at this time, patrons are required to wear masks when in the EAC building.
