Stage East’s latest—an original musical, Away Down East (A Wicked Good Time)—opened June 10 at Eastport Arts Center; weekend shows will continue through June 19. “This show is so well rounded,” wrote Natalie Bilski, who plays the matriarch of the tourist family we follow through the show. “It’s going to bring boisterous laughs, heartfelt tears, and possibly the uncontrollable urge to dance.”
With music and lyrics by Elizabeth Goodliff and book by Mark Macey, the Downeast Maine-inspired comedy features a large cast, including performers from all around Washington County: Natalie Bilski, Cookie Repp and Rosalie Woodward from Lubec; Manuela Brice, Lucy Collins, Madeline Collins, L. Elwood, Mark Macey and Melissa Newcomb from Eastport; and Peyton Rollins and Ashley McLaughlin from Calais.
Shows are June 10-12 and 17-19; Fridays and Saturdays at 7 pm, Sunday matinees at 2 pm. Tickets are are available at stageeast.org under the ticket tab: adults, $15, 17 and under admitted free.
Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport and eastportartscenter.org, and is handicapped-accessible. EAC abides by State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Additionally, at this time, patrons are required to wear masks when in the EAC building.
