L. Elwood, director, is at the helm of Stage East’s latest: the world premiere of an original musical, Down East Tonight (A Wicked Good Time).

L reflects on the production, and all that it promises for theatergoers:
Ahhhh Down East. Truly, the way life should be.
And what better way to end Stage East’s 30th anniversary season and kick off the Maine summer than with a brand new musical that traverses the coast of Washington County.
As we travel along the coast with our endearing tourist family, you’ll encounter the likes of rollicking rock hounds, coquettish ship captains, robust rock band fans, powerful and playful pirates, the one and only Eastport mermaid, and so much more.
Now, of course, I need to give props to the folks who created this remarkable romp of a time. Because of Elizabeth H. Nichols-Goodliff and her sensational songs and lyrics and Mark Macey’s silly and side-splitting book, you’ll be tapping your toes and laughing out loud as you leave this theater.
It’ll indeed be a Wicked Good Time. So, kick back, relax and enjoy this grand ole night in the theater. To borrow from our great composer, ‘We’re rockin’ in the Down East tonight!

Elwood,  a recent graduate of Oberlin College with a BA in Theater and Dance,  hails from Bangor, Maine, and over the years spent multiple summers on the Maine coast working at summer stock theater. She acts, dances, directs, choreographs and writes; down the road she wants to focus and train in physical theater, though she will always be interested in playing a role with arts management teams.
