EAC’s Summer Workshop Series continues from 1:30-3:30 pm, Tuesday, August 16, with Ashley Hinson-Dhakal’s Henna Basics. Participants will learn about the history and traditional use of henna, as well as different designs and their meanings. Attendees will be provided with a tube of natural henna paste that may be used on hands or feet to produce a vivid henna tattoo (typically lasting one to two weeks). Instruction will include application techniques, various motifs to try out, and ways to make the henna result in a deep, vibrant temporary tattoo. Certain people may have skin sensitivity and for that reason, directions will be provided for doing a “patch test” in advance of the session.
This workshop is intended for ages 12 and up. A $20 fee covers all materials; a sliding fee scale is available by request. Pre-registration is requested; please email Alison Brennan at alison@eastportartscenter.org. Space is very limited, so please register early to save a place. Support for this workshop has been provided by Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport and eastportartscenter.org, and is handicapped-accessible. EAC abides by State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. At this time, the EAC recommends that people wear masks when in our building.
