EAC’s Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center series will continue with the popular annual Harpsichord Hour on February 26 at 3 pm. Gregory Biss will perform a six-movement work, Bach’s Keyboard Partita in B flat Major, BWV 825. He will also discuss how the piece is put together, as well as various useful ways to listen to the music. Another facet of the program will be a demonstration of how the harpsichord works.
Gregory Biss was born in Illinois and educated in New England and Germany. His music has been performed by the Denver Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Vermeer Quartet. Retired from a 20-year career as a scuba diver in the aquaculture industry, Biss has resided in Eastport for more than 45 years where he and his wife, Barbara Smith, raised their four kids. He is currently composing a children’s opera to be mounted at EAC in the fall of 2023.

Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center programs are held in Eastport Arts Center’s cozy downstairs Washington Street Gallery, amidst rotating exhibitions. Admission is by voluntary donation; proceeds are shared equally between the presenters and EAC constituent group The Concert Series, which offers year-round programming run by volunteers. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
