Eastport Gallery member Marlys Farn-Guillette led a workshop on creating clay tiles, Saturday, April 1 at the EAC. Marlys brought lots of creative materials and ideas to work with, and students had a bunch of fun getting creative in this medium. Beads, shells and unique carvings brought life to the tile creations.
Clay is not a simple process. The next step is to let the clay slowly dry. Then it gets fired … not really a participatory event. The class members will reconvene to glaze their pieces after firing. There was an option of having some pieces fired with the Raku technique, so stay tuned, because that is really something to see if some of the artists choose that option.

Alison Bryn Ross, another Eastport Gallery member teaching at EAC this spring, will lead her workshop on lettering on April 13 and we’ll give you a recap on that soon. Next up in Eastport Gallery’s Artist Teaching Artist series is Jude Kempe’s Beginners’ Video Workshop.
