The Shead Jazz Quartet performed for EAC’s largest audience since before Covid on Friday, April 7. The show was a fundraiser for the group—who received a gold medal and other awards for their performance at state competition—to travel and compete at the 2023 National Jazz Festival in Philadelphia on April 22. Director and arranger Robert Sánchez expressed gratitude for the warm, full house, and “incredibly generous” donations of those who attended and gave the musicians a standing ovation. The show also featured an opening act including Heron Weston, bass, and Lauren Koss, vocals.
Event organizer Alison Brennan, who will retire next month from her role as EAC’s Education and Outreach Director, began the High School Jazz Night tradition eight years ago, as one of the first programs she devised for the Center. She was pleased that she could see the event come together one more time for her last season at EAC.

Group members are Kieran Weston, drums, Antonio Vizcarrondo, bass, and Nathan Tardif and Ellis Zipperer-Sánchez, guitar. The four play arrangements written by Robert Sánchez.

Those interested in contributing to the group’s expenses are encouraged to donate by check payable to Shead High School, with “Jazz Band” in the notes, and mailed to: Shead High School Jazz Band, 89 High Street, Eastport Maine, 04631, or online (no PayPal account required) at: https://tinyurl.com/2s33czsj.
