The Eastport & Lubec ArtWalk weekend runs August 4-6th and celebrates the sea with the 2nd Annual Mermaid Parade on Saturday August 5th at 5 pm. Costume-themed opportunities will be available on Friday and Saturday afternoons, August 4 and 5, when local artists will help visitors create mermaid attire at various locations.  Live music, puppetry, art-making and more fill the schedule all weekend.  Enjoy a scavenger hunt to find “beach-trash” puppets by Lubec artist, Chuck Kniffen, installed around town. Nia Aretakis, longtime contributor to EAC’s KinderArts programming, will again offer a youth craft downtown from noon-3 pm, Saturday; just one of many opportunities for revelers of all ages.

Just look for the EAC banner! Nia Aretakis, ready for crafters, is shown at the June ArtWalk event; she’ll return this time ’round, Saturday from noon-3 pm.

A pre-parade party will be held in the Eastport Arts Center parking lot on Saturday from 3-5 pm; all are invited to enjoy music and merriment with mer-persons of all ages while using EAC-provided supplies to create masks and put finishing touches on parade costumes. Behind-the-scenes images from last week’s mermaid-theme Cosplay Circle, one of EAC’s Open Sessions offerings, may be found below.
