About the event

Summer music at Eastport Arts Center continues with classical pianist Danny Holt on Friday, August 9 at 7 pm. Pre-concert (6:15 pm) and post-concert receptions will offer a chance for attendees to gather casually before and after the performance.

Holt enjoys shining a spotlight on the works of lesser-known composers from the 18th and 19th centuries, and is a champion of music from the 20th century and today. His eclectic program includes lively Classical-era sonatas by František Xaver Dušek and Leopold Koželuch, lyrical and powerful Romantic-era works by Amy Beach, Theodor Kirchner, and Stephen Heller, and contemporary works by Mike Garson (pianist for David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, etc.), jazz/pop phenom Jon Batiste, and others.

Click here for a video of Danny performing "For Stephen Heller", Op. 51 – Nos 3, 4, & 9, by Theodor Kirchner (1823-1903).

Called “phenomenal” by the late music critic Alan Rich, and hailed as one of the “local heroes” of the Los Angeles music scene (LAcitybeat.com), pianist Holt performs around the globe in concert halls (Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hollywood Bowl), clubs (Joe’s Pub, The Blue Whale, Copenhagen Jazzhouse) art galleries (MASS MoCA, Hammer Museum), churches, living rooms, and wherever else he can find a piano and someone to listen. His recorded catalog includes the recent solo album “Piano Music of Mike Garson” and other solo, chamber, and orchestral releases on the Innova Recordings label, pfMENTUM, New World Records, Deutsche Grammophon, Acis Productions, and L’st records. After spending most of the past two decades in Southern California, Holt recently relocated to East Machias, where he enjoys being surrounded by natural beauty and the many joys of small town life in Downeast Maine.

EAC concert tickets are $15, and attendees 17 and under will be admitted free of charge. If money is an obstacle, ticket fee will be waived. Tickets are available via the EAC site or at the door.
