About the event

The finale of our five Felt Fest workshops, this session brings all of the wool-felting skills together. Participants will learn an accessible wet-felting technique for creating a durable and attractive artisan tote, or basket, with handles. They'll also learn about embellishing their finished project with decorative needle-felting techniques. The session, which is the most advanced of the series, is planned with an hour-long lunch break in the middle. Perfect for those with good upper body strength, this immersive experience will elevate students' felting skills and creativity to new dimensions.

Felting is a meditative and fascinating tactile process, and instructor Audra Christie has enjoyed exploring the huge range of applications of the medium. Her passion for fiber art has led her to felting hats and art objects, spinning yarn, and knitting and crocheting using wool from her own sheep. Her artwork explores ethics, craftsmanship, local culture, conviviality, and the essence of rural communities.

This session is for students age 18 and up. Ambitious workers ages 15 and up may inquire by email. Cost per student is $30 plus a $20 materials fee. A sliding fee scale (pay what you can) is available by request. Space is limited; reserve below or by email to workshops@eastportartscenter.org.

Felt Fest has been supported by the Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
