Drumming with Noel Brennan

May 24, 2021 @ 7:30 pm 8:30 pm

Expanding EAC’s online education to include music, the center will offer a free four-week Drumming class for teens and adults on Mondays, May 3, 10, 17 and 24, from 7:30-8:30 pm, with Noel Brennan. Originally from Robbinston, and currently Program Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Brooklyn Conservatory, Brennan has taken lessons over many years from drumming masters of various cultures. He will instruct the classes using compositions from various places 3,000 years old—from Wolof in sabar to Konnokol in India the focus will language-based drumming techniques for passing on the aural tradition. This communal form of communication can be audible as far as 9 miles away!

To register for the Zoom classes, please email Alison Brennan by May 3 at alison@eastportartscenter.org. Registrants will be provided with a special Sabar drum stick handmade by Dan Cashore; pickup arrangements will be made at registration. Students will need some type of hand drum that is big enough to be played with one hand and one stick. Questions may be addressed to Alison.

Funding for this free workshop has been provided by the Cricket Foundation. Donations will be gratefully accepted here: https://eastportartscenter.org/support/donate
