Instructor Julie Bakis has resumed weekly yoga sessions at Eastport Arts Center (EAC). Bakis leads class downstairs at the EAC from 8:45-10 am on Saturday mornings, guiding participants in a gentle hatha-flow class with an emphasis on breath and alignment. The class is designed to help both experienced yoga practitioners and those new to yoga to build strength and flexibility through traditional asanas (yoga poses). A believer in the power of meditation, Bakis concludes each class with shavasana, a period of varied meditation and relaxation exercises designed to allow the mind and body to more deeply connect and quiet.
Bakis has been practicing yoga for 12 years. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2013 through Namaste Institute in Portland, Maine. She is a certified yoga instructor with the Yoga Alliance. Julie lives in Eastport with her husband and children.
Cost for the class is by a sliding scale of $5 to $10/class. The Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport, and at www.eastportartscenter.org, and is handicapped-accessible.
