EAC will offer their popular April Vacation Arts Camp April 17-19, 10 am-noon. Inspired by the culture and landscape of Polynesia, the camp will feature themed activities such as ti leaf leis, tribal tattoo art posters, shadow puppet folk tales, ukulele fun and more. Instructors include music educator Alison Brennan and Tarah Waters, who has recently returned from Hawaiian travels. The two will be joined by visiting artists Chris Grannis (puppetry) and Lauren Koss (music).
After 38 years teaching music in Washington County, Alison Brennan ‘retired’ to begin a career as Education & Outreach Coordinator at EAC. She’s retained her teaching hat by taking on the band program for the Alexander school, and also enjoys family and music-related travel and palling around with her grandchildren. EAC Island Institute Fellow Tarah Waters’ myriad interests include photography, yoga and activism, and she especially enjoys the company of children. In her free time from working as Director at EAC, Chris Grannis enjoys dabbling in theater production, textile art and full-contact grandmothering. Lauren Koss, who serves as Publicity Director at EAC, learned ukulele from Gene Nichols, leader of UMM’s Ukulele Club, and enjoys a wide range of musical pursuits as well as experimental cooking, video art and reading.
The camp is for ages 6-13. Fee is $10 to cover materials and snacks, and a sliding fee scale is available. Space is limited. To reserve your spot please email Alison Brennan at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at (207) 454-8822 for more information or to sign up. The Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport and at http://www.eastportartscenter.org, and is handicapped-accessible.
