April Vacation Arts Camp
April 21, 2021 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Eastport Arts Center will offer a two-day April Vacation Arts Camp on Wednesday and Thursday, April 21 and 22, from 10-11 am each day. Geared to children ages 6 to 13, the camp will feature an Earth Day theme and feature accessible, colorful projects including recycled materials. Instructor is Devon McPhee, who currently teaches K-12 art in the Calais schools. Read more about Mr. McPhee here. A $5/student donation will cover materials kits; a sliding fee scale is available by request.
Wednesday’s craft will be making a decorative pencil cup from recycled materials collected by Mr. McPhee. The cup will be perfect for protecting the colored pencils participants will receive in their materials kits. Thursday’s project will be a beautiful Earth-themed mandala drawing, suitable for display as a poster.
Materials kits are limited to the first 10 preregistered students. To register, please email Alison: firstname.lastname@example.org. Materials kits may be picked up in Robbinston on April 19 and 20, or in Machias, Eastport or Baring on April 20. Kits include colored pencils, a cardboard template for drawing the mandala, a pencil with eraser, glue, a tin can, scraps of construction paper, and paper for the mandala drawing (scissors will need to be provided from home).
Those who wish to join in for the camp using their own materials may email for a Zoom invitation and to be sent a pattern to make their own mandala template. All participants are encouraged to send photos of their projects to Alison via the email address above.
Funding for this offering has been provided by Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
