Draw-a-Thon

Recurring event see all

January 23, 2021 @ 7:30 pm 9:30 pm

“I am so excited to invite you to the first Draw-a-thon of 2021!” says organizer Anne Shields Hopkins. “We will be welcoming Easy Elliot for our long pose this time around. He will be immersing us in the full experience of his studio in Biddeford, Maine. We will be listening to selections from his 6 albums and enjoying the treat of an experienced model’s performance!”
“We are also so pleased to welcome back to the Draw-a-thon ‘stage’ Duane Ingalls! He will be playing an performing a 20-minute set ‘with flutes, vocals, and costuming… a mic & efx involved, which will remain visible & worthy-for-portraying!’ he says.”
Event host Anne Shields Hopkins will kick off the evening’s drawing with some short 3-10 minute poses. As Anne is posing they will be reading selections from Having and Being Had by Eula Biss—an interesting focus on reckoning with consumer & middle class culture.
Following the long pose, all are invited to an atmospheric night time After Party!
EAC’s monthly Draw-a-Thon, a virtual program co-hosted by Anne Shields Hopkins, EAC’s life drawing workshop organizer, is offered on the last Saturday of each month, from 7:30-9:30. All are welcome to participate in the “pay if you are able event”, which uses the Zoom platform to create an evening both festive and intimate. Each month, the Draw-a-Thon creates a space for artists to draw models and performers in real time, and begins with a series of short ‘gesture’ poses for the artists to warm up.
Anne noted that participants needn’t be artists, and that all community members are welcome to come and engage with the event, whether to try their hand at drawing, or to sit and work on a craft or other task in company.
