Quoddy Voices will begin rehearsing for their winter program, “A Glorious Nowell,” on Monday, September 17, from 7-9 pm, at Eastport Arts Center. Director John Newell has chosen Vivaldi’s Gloria in Excelsis Deo “a true classic of the choral repertoire,” as featured work for the program, which will be performed with string accompaniment on December 14 and 16 at EAC. In addition to an array of varied carols, the chorus will perform two medieval English pieces, a first for the ensemble. “This goes along with my continuing desire to expose the chorus and audience to the vast range of choral repertoire,” said Newell.
Quoddy Voices welcomes singers of all experience levels; and no auditions are required to participate. “I want to give everyone with an interest the opportunity to sing,” said Newell. Because of his policy, Newell has “uncovered some terrific ‘hidden’ talent.” New singers are asked to please contact Newell before the first rehearsal at email@example.com.
Quoddy Voices is a constituent group of the EAC, with dedicated members who hail from all over our region. For additional information, please write Newell at the address above, or send a message via the Quoddy Voices Facebook page. The Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport and http://www.eastportartscenter.org, and is handicapped-accessible. The work of the EAC has been funded in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
