Stage East’s ‘The Glass Menagerie’

December 2, 2022 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

Stage East adventures beyond the Eastport Arts Center with its next production, The Glass Menagerie. The company will make use of the storefront space at 34 Water Street in Eastport, just across from the Waco Diner, to stage the classic American drama by Tennessee Williams. Stage East veterans Jenie Smith (Amanda) and Madeline Collins (Laura) are joined by newcomers Alba “Hoty” Briggs IV (Tom) and Toby Wallander (Jim, the gentleman caller); the production is directed by Kayla Heckart.

Set in the depression-era, the play follows the efforts of Amanda Wingfield, a faded southern belle, to sort out the futures of her two adult children: Tom, a would-be poet stuck working in a shoe factory to support the family, and Laura, an impossibly shy young woman with a physical disability whose two joys are playing records on the victrola and collecting glass animal figurines. Fortunes look up when a gentleman caller is arranged for Laura in hopes of marrying her off.

A family drama of great tenderness, charm and beauty, The Glass Menagerie is sure to resonate. Performances will be offered at 7 pm, Fridays and Saturdays, December 2, 3, 9 and 10; and at 2 pm, Sundays, December 4 and 11. Tickets are $15; attendees age 17 and under will be admitted free of charge. Doors for the show will open 30 minutes prior to performances (6:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays; 1:30 pm on Sundays); attendees are asked to be in their seats promptly at 7 pm and 2 pm. Tickets are available at stageeast.org under the tickets tab. Tickets are also available at the door, but seating is limited. For more information, please email markspencermacey@gmail.com.

The Glass Menagerie is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection (www.dramatists.com). Stage East is a constituent group of Eastport Arts Center, where creativity and community meet, at eastportartscenter.org.
