Monday, May 23 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Artist Amy Ray will be exhibiting a large body of ink paintings, ‘The Seaweed Show,’ beginning Monday, May 23 at Eastport Arts Center’s Washington Street Gallery. The paintings chronicle Ray’s exploration of seaweed from small studies to large scale abstracted works. The show will run through Sunday, June 26, and is viewable during EAC events or by chance, or during special open hours 1-3 pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
In addition, several special events are planned in conjunction with the exhibition: an opening artist’s reception will be held Sunday, June 5 from 4-8 pm; a closing coffee and conversation event will be offered Sunday, June 26 from 1-4 pm; and there will be a presentation about these fascinating aquatic plants by the Maine Seaweed Council on Thursday, June 23 at 5 pm. Gulf of Maine, Inc., will attend the opening reception, offering samples and information about their work in Pembroke.
Ray was born in Eastport in 1961 and has recently returned to live year round. She received her MFA in painting from Brooklyn College and her BFA in drawing from USM.
