Ugly Sweater Ornament Making Party
Saturday, December 1 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The Eastport Arts Center will offer their popular annual ornament-making party on Saturday, December 1 from 1-3 pm. This year, participants are encouraged to wear their favorite ugly sweater to the party, where they’ll enjoy snacks and treats while learning some ornament techniques from instructors Ann Cannizzaro and Sue Riddle. Cannizzaro’s project will involved shell-bedecked miniature mirrors; Riddle’s will feature bejeweled hollowed-out egg shells.
“I am inspired to stay connected to making small works of art that may make others smile,” said Cannizzaro, an educator who has taught many students at the EAC and locally. “I enjoy inspiring people of all ages through programming at the arts center. Its an opportunity for me to draw inspiration from satisfied students, and to share skills and ideas to a positive end.” Cannizzaro lives in Pembroke.
Riddle is a San Francisco expat who moved to Maine three years ago; locals may recognize her as The Pug Lady of Pembroke. Before she became chief chicken wrangler at an old Victorian fixer-upper, she filled sketchbooks with natural history illustrations and semi-autobiographical cartoons. Lately, she has been leading classes at Peavey Library as an excuse to buy more washi tape.
The party is designed for ages 8 to adult; younger children are welcome to attend with a parent or caregiver. Fee is $10/person and includes materials and snacks; a sliding fee scale is available by request. Attendees should feel free to bring favorite ornament-making supplies to use or share, or a snack item to share. Space is limited and preregistration is requested: please email Alison at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (207) 454-8822. The Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport, and is handicapped-accessible. For more information, please visit www.eastportartscenter.org.
