Workshop: Cabochon Pendants with Leah Backman

Sunday, May 15 @ 1:00 pm 4:00 pm

Cabochon pendants, on Sunday, May 15th from 1-4 pm, is next in the Eastport Arts Center’s workshop line-up. Instructor Leah Backman will teach participants the art of creating a basic beaded bezel setting for a cabochon stone, or the decorative sunshine edge. Students with prior experience will be guided in creating even more complex designs. Students’ materials kits will include several different varieties of stone and beads to choose from, plus cords to display the wearable artwork.

Backman, owner of Baubles ‘n Booty, loves sharing the art of beading and seeing the beauty of someone wearing one of her works of art. Her extensive art background includes oil painting, quilting, metal sculpture, silkscreening, quilling and knitting.  After attending a bead show in 2009, she was mesmerized by a gorgeous butterfly necklace. This led her to many hours of beading embroidery and getting hooked on this fun craft. She was most recently spotted in Eastport while selling jewelry during the Pirate Festival.

The session is intended for ages 12 and up. A $20 fee covers all materials; a sliding fee scale is available by request. To register, please email Alison Brennan at alison@eastportartscenter.org. Space is very limited, so please register early to save a place. Support for this workshop has been provided by Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
