Workshop: Spring Still Life with Brenda Gay

March 18, 2023 @ 1:00 pm 4:00 pm

Eastport Arts Center’s next workshop offering will be a Spring Still Life session with Brenda Gay on Saturday, March 18, from 1-4 pm. This seasonally inspired session will focus on a quick, finished painting in acrylics. Students will learn about perspective, light and shadows, and value while employing academic techniques such as what brushwork and materials best serve the viewers’ understanding of your composition. Beyond the academic, the workshop will be a fun afternoon as participants explore the painting process.
The session is for ages 12 and up; a $20 fee includes all materials. A sliding fee scale (pay what you can) is available by request. To register, please email Alison Brennan at alison@eastportartscenter.org. Support for this workshop has been provided by Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
Brenda Gay’s art style can be called “Just left of Impressionism,” or as she calls it, “Empathetic Lyricism.” While this descriptor suggests music, it aptly describes Brenda’s eclectic styles, harmony and techniques. Her preferred mediums are oils, charcoal and graphite; she uses Old Master’s styles and recipes, and works both outdoors and in the studio. Brenda has studied with many fine, award-winning artists, including Emy DeMusis, Christina Mastrangello, Eric Johnson, Julie Beck, Garrett Vitanza, Don Demers, Mary Erickson and many others. She belongs to the National Portrait Society, The Fine Arts Society of America, The Arts Renewal Center, and the Nanatuck Group of Painters. She will open an in-house Studio/Gallery this spring and welcomes visitors by chance or appointment, call for information: (207) 263-5297.
