Arts Camp Engaged Multigenerational Audience

Eastport Arts Center was thrilled to host a special appearance by pianists Danny Holt and Michael Coonrod during area schools' April vacation week, on April 24. The lively and interactive concert was attended by an attentive roomful fairly evenly divided between children and adults, all of whom enjoyed the selections—Brahms, Mozart, Schubert and others, as well as fascinating discussion of the piano itself. Students had a chance to try their hands at playing a simple melody, then collaborated with some of the grownups to play an accompaniment using boomwhackers (pitched percussion instruments). Coonrod, who taught at Interlochen Arts Academy for 46 years, was Holt's teacher when he was in attendance at the school from age 15 to 18. The two are reunited this week for a Downeast Maine four-hand piano concert tour, their friendship and humor bringing a spark to each musical collaboration. THANK YOU, Danny and Michael!
