Each year, during the graduation ceremonies at area high schools, Eastport Arts Center honors seniors who have excelled in music, theater and the visual arts. Nominated by their teachers, the students are chosen based on their commitment and contribution to the fine arts in their schools and community.
Calais seniors honored this year are Kiele James, art; Keegan Trainor, music; and Liberty Hodge, theater.
Washington Academy honorees are Alex Curtis, art; and Jonah Dean, music.
Shead High School teachers chose two students who have participated in multiple arts areas for a generalized Excellence in the Arts Award: Audrey Andrews and Toby Wallander.
Shead student Wallander was praised for “A lifelong dedication to theater arts,” by teacher Ian Campbell. “Toby was a core member of our troupe this year,” wrote Campbell. “They touched every aspect of development from leading acting roles, lead design work, and an important part in the leadership and training wing of the program.”
Calais student James was lauded by teacher Bobbi Tardif for efforts to mentor younger students, for expressive and detailed drawings, and for inspiring others in the school.
EAC congratulates all of the honorees, and extends hopes that all will continue to find beauty and joy in the arts.
