Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center: WSHD DJs Roundtable About Eastport’s Community Radio Station

February 19, 2023 @ 3:00 pm 4:30 pm

EAC’s Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center series will continue February 19 at 3 pm, when a group of DJs from WSHD 93.3 will offer a roundtable discussion of Eastport’s community radio station. Reaching listeners from Eastport to Robbinston to Whiting and across the bay to New Brunswick’s Fundy Isles, the station’s broadcast from Shead High School offers a 24/7 mix of live DJs and automated playlists. A broad range of musical styles and genres are included, from jazz to folk to progressive rock.

Station manager Robert Sanchez will be joined by DJs Tom “Fire Dog” McLaughlin, “Bass Lady” Joan Lowden, Catherine J.S. Lee, and “Cracklin’ Jane” Lanctot for a discussion of the history and operation of WSHD, and the opportunity that the station affords students and area residents to learn about radio by hosting their own shows. DJs will talk about how they put together their shows, from selecting the music to the technology involved in producing quality shows, both live and pre-recorded, for broadcast.

Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center programs are held in Eastport Arts Center’s cozy downstairs Washington Street Gallery, amidst rotating exhibitions. Admission is by voluntary donation; proceeds are shared equally between the presenters and EAC constituent group The Concert Series, which offers year-round programming run by volunteers. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
